Using Nice as base, we spent three days touring French Rivera. Our first day trip was to Monaco. It’s less than an hour bus ride, and it’s an entire different country! To us Monaco is like a hillier, luxury version of Nice. It was fun to get a taste of another French Rivera town with a different vibe. Here is what we have done:
We went up to the old town for a good view of city and stared at the Yachts parked along the coast.
Then of course we wandered around the narrow streets and found pancakes for dessert. We love the colorful houses and the cathedral.
Then we walked back to Place d’Armes and had pasta lunch at the indoor market. There was also a farmer’s market with fresh produce.
Afterwards, we grabbed a map from the tourist office so we could find Monte Carlo. It’s simply the most luxurious casino I have ever seen.
Then we followed the map to Japanese Garden.
And the beach.
And that concludes our self-guided tour of Monaco.
On our way back to Nice, we planned to visit Eze, but it was raining so heavily we could only see it in a distance. It still looks beautiful in the rain. I just wish I could stroll around and see it up close.
